Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has humorously responded to a fan's bold inquiry about her portrayal of a 'runs girl' in Mercy Aigbe’s latest film, Thinline. The fan, Damilola Made, took to X (formerly Twitter) to ask whether Yvonne had any personal experience as a prostitute, based on how convincingly she embodied the role.
In the tweet, Damilola quipped, “I have a very important question for @iamyvonnejegede. Have you ever been a runs girl before acting? Because tell me how you played that ashawo role so perfectly?”
Yvonne, known for her wit, couldn’t resist responding with a playful touch. She shared that she was initially alarmed when she saw her name trending alongside the word "ashawo," which means prostitute in Nigerian Pidgin.
"I just woke up, picked up my phone, and this is what I saw. Immediately, I saw my name and ‘ashawo,’ and I thought, ‘What did I do this time?’ Sleep cleared from my eyes," she joked. She then gracefully added, “Thanks for the review. Thinline is a beautiful story all around; don’t miss it!”
Her lighthearted response struck a chord with fans, who appreciated her ability to turn an awkward situation into an opportunity to promote her film with charm and humor.
Interestingly, Thinline stirred a bit of drama upon release, as it coincided with the debut of Funke Akindele’s much-anticipated film Everybody Loves Jenifa. Despite the timing clash, Yvonne's standout performance in Thinline has continued to spark conversations.
