On November 21, 2024, Nigerian music icon Yemi Alade publicly accused Cool FM of blacklisting her songs following a year-long disagreement. Taking to the micro-blogging platform X, the Grammy-nominated singer alleged that Cool FM and Clout Africa removed her music from their airwaves after she failed to attend one of their events in 2023 despite apologizing.
In her posts, Yemi Alade expressed frustration, claiming she made efforts to resolve the issue but was met with indifference. She wrote:
“My God, BIG PASS YOUR WHOLE station @cloutafrica @CoolFMNigeria. Keep on forming gatekeepers and taking my songs down. NA GOD BE MY LABEL AND MANAGEMENT, we go meet for front. Fake people wey dey feel like small gods.”
Alade further accused the organizations of “carrying a grudge” against her for over a year. She revealed she had reached out to Cool FM’s leadership, but her messages went unanswered.
“Take down my whole catalog from your stations @CoolFMNigeria and @cloutafrica …. God go still give me food. You’re beefing an artist for 1 full year over your event. I didn’t go, too. I apologized and even called your oga. Him dey form oga, no even reply my text,” she added.
While Cool FM has yet to respond to the allegations, the incident reignites discussions about gatekeeping and favoritism in the Nigerian music industry.
