Wizkid Morayo Tour Cancellations as a Result of Rumored Low Ticket Sales Spark Debate

Wizkid

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid faced a major setback as multiple dates of his highly anticipated Morayo Tour in North America were canceled. The cancellations, announced just weeks before the tour’s kickoff, affected major venues like State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Madison Square Garden in New York, and Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. The official notice cited the event organizer’s decision to cancel, with refunds promised within 14–21 days. However, the underlying reason, rumored low ticket sales, has sparked heated discussions among fans and industry observers, raising questions about Wizkid’s current standing in the global music scene.

The Wizkid Morayo Tour cancellations impacted four out of the original 11 scheduled North American dates:

Atlanta, GA – State Farm Arena (June 5, 2025)

New York, NY – Madison Square Garden (June 7, 2025) Toronto, Canada – Scotiabank Arena (June 11, 2025)

Baltimore, MD – CFG Bank Arena (date unspecified)

The primary reason for the Wizkid Morayo Tour cancellations appears to be low ticket sales, as reported by multiple sources. This aligns with broader industry trends highlighted in an NBC News article from June 2024, which noted a cooling of the post-pandemic live music boom due to consumer spending fatigue and elevated ticket prices.

Even major artists like Jennifer Lopez and the Black Keys have recently canceled or scaled back tours due to similar challenges. Wizkid’s case, however, has drawn particular scrutiny. Some fans, like @abazwhyllzz, pointed out that ticket prices were reduced in an attempt to boost sales, yet the effort fell short: > “So none of his fans could buy tickets despite the ticket price reduction???😂😂😂 brooo, this guy is finished 😭😭😭.”

Additionally, some speculate that personal challenges, including Wizkid’s grief over the loss of his mother in August 2023, may have impacted his ability to promote the tour effectively. The Morayo album, released on November 22, 2024, is a tribute to his late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun, and peaked at No. 98 on the Billboard 200. Despite its emotional significance, the album’s commercial performance may not have generated the momentum needed for a successful tour.
