Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared a strict campaign to remove street beggars from Abuja, expressing concern over the city’s deteriorating image and security threats posed by their increasing presence. Speaking at the launch of a road project in Katampe District, Wike emphasized that Abuja risks becoming a “beggars’ city” and ordered their removal starting next week.
He warned that some beggars might also be involved in criminal activities. Despite potential backlash, Wike stated that the well-being and safety of the city’s residents remain the priority.
