Why my marriage started off chaotic, problematic – Etim Effiong

Daniel Etim-Effiong opens up about his early marriage struggles, facing chaos, setting boundaries, and learning to navigate his wife Toyosi’s assertiveness. Nollywood actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has candidly shared the turbulent early days of his marriage to his wife, Toyosi, shedding light on the struggles they faced in building a stable foundation.

Speaking in a recent interview, the actor revealed how Toyosi’s assertiveness initially challenged his sense of identity as a husband. “I wasn’t used to people having a say. Being with a wife so assertive felt chaotic. I started to feel like I was losing control, like I wasn’t enough as a man or a husband, and it really messed with my mind,” he confessed.

Adding to the chaos were his undefined boundaries with women, which only fueled tensions in their marriage. Etim-Effiong opened up about receiving inappropriate calls and maintaining relationships that didn’t respect the boundaries of marriage.

“It took me a while to realize the importance of drawing the line,” he admitted. “It’s not okay for someone to call me at odd hours just because they’re a friend. You’re married now; some things need to change. But learning this wasn’t easy, and it caused a lot of quarrels early on.”

Despite the challenges, the actor shared that embracing boundaries and open communication ultimately helped the couple find clarity and peace.
