Why most artistes’ careers crash when they get married – Phyno
Phyno explains why many music artists' careers decline after marriage, citing the demanding nature of the music industry and the difficulty of balancing it with personal commitments.
Nigerian musician Phyno has shared his perspective on why many music artists experience a downturn in their careers after marriage. During a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast, Phyno opened up about the intense demands of the music industry, which he described as "jealous" and all-consuming. According to him, balancing music with marriage or other pursuits often becomes too overwhelming for many artists, leading to professional decline.
"Statistically, I feel most celebrities’ careers crash when they get married," Phyno explained. "Music is a jealous career. That’s why people drop out of school to focus on it. It consumes all your time, and those who manage to juggle both deserve praise."
He emphasized that music, especially for artists who write their own songs, is deeply connected to personal life experiences. "You can’t be talking about happiness when you’ve got a girlfriend stressing you," Phyno added, underscoring the emotional toll that personal relationships can have on creativity.
In his view, the demands of both music and marriage often pull artists in opposite directions, making it challenging to sustain a thriving career after tying the knot.
