Weston McKennie extends contract with Juventus

Juventus confirmed on Friday that midfielder Weston McKennie of the United States has extended his contract with the team through 2026. McKennie's deal with the Serie A powerhouses was scheduled to expire in June 2025, and this summer, he was rumored to be leaving.

The midfielder was being pursued by the Bundesliga, the Premier League, and Fiorentina, an ESPN insider revealed, but following a tumultuous summer, he decided to extend his contract with Juventus. The 25-year-old McKennie was kept out of Juventus' starting lineup for their last two exhibition games.

Manager Thiago Motta announced the expulsion of McKennie, winger Federico Chiesa, and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, adding, "[Those players] have to find a new solution and new club as soon as possible."

"First of all, McKennie is a useful and functional player for our needs," Motta stated during a press conference. In Monday's Serie A opener against Como, Juventus defeated them 3-0 without the use of McKennie as a substitute. With this extension, he will compete until the men's World Cup in 2026, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. McKennie, who played in 34 Serie A games for Juventus the previous season, started all three of the USMNT's Copa América group stage matches.
