VeryDarkMan launches NGO to reform public education, seeks support

Nigerian activist and outspoken social critic, Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, has launched a groundbreaking NGO focused on rejuvenating the country’s public education system by harnessing the potential of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.

In a heartfelt statement shared across his social media platforms, Otse highlighted his deep concerns about the current state of Nigeria's education sector. Reflecting on a bygone era, he painted a picture of a time when schools were vibrant hubs of learning, driven by young, passionate teachers who made education an engaging and exciting experience for students. He expressed his dismay at how the quality of education has plummeted, with classrooms now filled with older teachers who, in his view, lack the energy and dynamism needed to inspire young minds. This, he said, has led to a growing sense of boredom and disengagement among students.

Otse stressed the critical role of mentorship in the lives of young people, noting that when students don’t have positive figures to look up to, they often turn to negative influences like cultism. To combat this, his newly formed NGO seeks to deploy talented, intelligent, and enthusiastic NYSC members to public schools. These corps members will not only teach but also serve as role models, engaging students in innovative and creative activities to stimulate their intellectual growth and restore their passion for learning.

The ultimate aim of Otse's NGO is to overhaul and revitalize Nigeria’s public education system, making it a place where students can thrive and look forward to attending every day. However, Otse acknowledged the challenges ahead, particularly in terms of funding. He admitted that he lacks the financial resources to pay the NYSC members who will be integral to this initiative. To address this, he plans to provide an NGO account for donations and promised to maintain complete transparency in how these funds will be used.

Otse concluded his message with a call to action, urging the public to support this vital cause and assuring them that every contribution would be accounted for, with regular updates to keep donors informed. His vision is clear—an education system that once again inspires Nigeria’s youth, with the help of those willing to make a difference.
