VeryDarkMan EFCC Plea Bargain Warning: A Bold Call to Yahoo Boys in Nigeria

On X, Nigerian social media activist VeryDarkMan posted a strong message alerting “yahoo boys” and other online fraudsters to the dangers of entering into plea deals with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Wearing a strikingly traditional outfit, VeryDarkMan calls out the VeryDarkMan EFCC plea bargain practices in the post, calling the agency “EFC-thi3v3s” and advising yahoo boys to pay close attention to his advice. A video link was included with the post, which generated a lot of conversation about the EFCC’s practices and how they affect young people in Nigeria.

The focus of VeryDarkMan’s VeryDarkMan warning is the EFCC’s use of plea bargaining, which was made legal in Nigeria by the EFCC Act of 2004. He gives advice to people who use the internet. Echoing followers like @Kanrabbai, who shared a story of a friend who lost cars and houses after a plea deal, he cautions those engaged in online fraud against accepting plea deals. The activist’s message is very clear: rather than accept deals that could result in large losses or additional EFCC exploitation, fight the charges in court.

Many followers responded strongly to the VeryDarkMan EFCC plea bargain post, sharing personal anecdotes and criticisms of the agency. “He plead bargain, EF thief thief change am for am immediately,” @Kanrabbai said, narrating a friend’s experience. He gave up his homes, vehicles, and other assets. This comment supports VeryDarkMan’s warning by highlighting the negative effects of plea bargaining in the real world.

Others, such as @jr_chrismas, provided specific numbers, citing an instance in which a person paid 15 million naira to secure his and 30 others’ release, in addition to an extra 500,000 naira for a car that had been seized. In a lighthearted but incisive remark, “Them carry all my guy btc make he for no take that picture I swear,” @Topher475684309 implied that the EFCC’s actions may even intrude on private moments. “Efcc under Tinubu govt is the most worst ever,” tweeted @Shadrachisa, criticizing the EFCC under President Tinubu’s administration. She also accused the agency of focusing on the less fortunate and celebrities rather than politicians.
