VeryDarkMan, EFCC: Falanas demand public apology from Bobrisky
Renowned lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and musician Falz demand a public apology and retraction from Bobrisky over defamatory claims, warning of legal action if not addressed.
Renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, celebrated rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, have issued a joint demand for a public retraction and apology from crossdresser and social media personality Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, following defamatory claims made by the latter.
This call stems from the release of controversial audio recordings that have circulated widely online, in which Bobrisky alleges that both Femi and Falz were involved in questionable financial dealings, including purported favors related to a presidential pardon. Bobrisky claimed that Falz was asked to mediate with his father for a N10 million bribe to secure the pardon and also implied additional payments for favorable treatment at Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
In a separate recording, Bobrisky further alleged that he had already paid N5 million to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to influence government charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). These statements have caused significant backlash, prompting the Falanas to address the issue head-on.
Through their legal team, led by Olorunfemi Akinyemi and Taiwo E. Olawanle, the Falanas released a firm letter on October 14, 2024, categorically denying the accusations, labeling them as unfounded and damaging to their reputations. They expressed concerns not just for the harm done to their personal and professional standing, but also for the wider implications of such misinformation in public discourse.
The Falanas are demanding a full retraction of the statements, along with a formal apology to be published across all platforms where the defamatory audio clips were shared. Failure to comply, they warn, may lead to legal repercussions, signaling their intent to combat the spread of falsehoods that could potentially set harmful precedents. For them, this is not merely about clearing their names but reinforcing a societal commitment to truth and accountability in an age of viral misinformation.
