The recent arrest of Martin Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has sparked widespread reactions across social media. Comedian Deeone, a former Big Brother Naija star, claimed that a petition was filed against VeryDarkMan by someone close to him. Deeone held up a document, which he stated was related to the EFCC’s investigation into VeryDarkMan’s activities. While the exact contents of the document were not fully legible in the video, this isn’t the first time Deeone has spoken about VeryDarkMan’s issues with the EFCC.

Earlier this year, on January 27, 2025, Deeone revealed that the EFCC was investigating VeryDarkMan’s NGO, the Martins Vincent Otse Initiative, over fundraising activities. The activist had raised over N202 million for school renovation projects but allegedly lacked transparency. Deeone also mentioned a N20 million withdrawal from the NGO’s account to purchase a Range Rover, which was later returned after public scrutiny.

VeryDarkMan’s arrest reportedly took place on May 2, 2025, at a GTBank branch in Abuja, alongside a friend identified as C Park. According to reports, the EFCC has not issued an official statement, leading to accusations of abuse of power and lack of transparency. Isaac Fayose, a businessman and brother to the former Ekiti state governor, condemned the arrest, urging Nigerians to protest at the EFCC headquarters on May 6, 2025.

Fayose argued that if the authorities could arrest VeryDarkMan “just like that,” no one is safe from such actions. Additionally, VeryDarkMan has previously accused the EFCC of plotting to frame him. In February 2025, he claimed that the agency, under chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede, targeted him due to his outspoken criticism. He alleged that a lawyer and an influencer provided the EFCC with a video of him spraying money at an event as evidence to justify an arrest. This background fuels speculation that the VeryDarkMan EFCC arrest may be linked to his ongoing feud with the agency.

As of May 5, 2025, the EFCC has yet to release an official statement about the VeryDarkMan EFCC arrest. The planned protest at the EFCC headquarters on May 6 could escalate the situation, potentially forcing the agency to address the public’s concerns. For now, VeryDarkMan’s supporters continue to rally behind him, while others await concrete evidence to determine whether the allegations against him hold weight.
