VDM Urges Falz to Drop Lawsuit Amid Defamation Row

Nigerian content creator VeryDarkMan (VDM), who recently made a social media post that led to outrage, has called rapper Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, to withdraw the lawsuit against him. The legal suit was informed by insults VDM directed at Falz's father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana.

On Instagram, VDM directly engaged Falz, emphasizing that his statements were not intended to defame Femi Falana. He urged Falz to withdraw the lawsuit and focus on fighting societal injustices. VDM's post underscored his plea, saying, "@falzthebahdguy, if you see the nonsense when dey go on here, you go drop lawsuit make we focus on the bad eggs when wan kai country them don dey cast themselves here? Don't get it twisted, your father na my father in the struggle."

It developed after Falz and his family engaged the legal services of a lawyer against VDM after the latter started trolling his social media pages. To counter the lawsuit, VDM flooded Instagram, crying for understanding while redirecting blame to the broader societal ills in Nigeria. However, what was frustrating to most of the social media users was that they saw it as an indirect apology rather than an apology message. Some have called on VDM to step up and properly apologize instead of making touching appeals; most review it as merely Setting the Stage.

The public's response to VDM's post has been mixed. While some applauded his courage in voicing his opinion on corruption, others saw it as a diversion from the lawsuit he is facing. Many demanded a direct apology from Falz and his family and a retraction of his previous statements.

As events unfold, it remains to be seen how exactly Falz will address the public appeal made by VDM. What is clear, however, is that the case has brought to light emerging conflicts between personalities in Nigerian society rocked by socio-political themes of transparency, truth, and accountability in their interactions with each other.

The controversy introduces another perspective into the never-ending debate on how the discussion on social media pages can influence legal processes and personal matters if accusations or unpleasant remarks are allowed on the accounts.
