The video is divided into two parts. The upper half shows two young men in a kitchen setting, one wearing a black shirt with “NANS” written on it and the other in a yellow shirt with “96” on the back. They appear to be making threatening statements, with the NANS member suggesting violence against VDM, referencing past incidents involving other individuals. The lower half features VDM, dressed in a striped vest and shell necklaces, sitting in a room with a serious expression, responding to these threats.

The video reveal a heated exchange, with the NANS member alleging that VDM was offered money to support certain political figures and accusing him of misrepresenting facts. VDM, in turn, denies these claims and warns against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that he will defend himself if necessary. The video concludes with VDM stating, “The ratel no dey run oo…mind you I no be Abubakar Isah, I will be waiting,” indicating his readiness to confront the situation.

VDM, a prominent figure in Nigerian social media circles, is known for his outspoken commentary on various issues, including politics and social justice. His influence has grown significantly, making him a target for both support and criticism. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is a student organization that represents university and college students across Nigeria. However, it has been marred by factionalism and allegations of misconduct, including violence and political manipulation.

The threats in the video are linked to recent allegations involving Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, and a factional NANS president, Atiku Isah. Isah claimed that Seyi Tinubu offered him money and threatened him, leading to a broader debate on the involvement of political figures in student politics.

This incident raises several critical issues. Firstly, it underscores the vulnerability of social media influencers who challenge powerful entities, often facing threats without adequate protection. Secondly, it questions the role and integrity of NANS, with some users suggesting that the organization is being used for political gain rather than representing student interests. Thirdly, it highlights the broader problem of impunity in Nigeria, where threats and violence are sometimes met with silence from authorities.

VDM’s response also reflects a growing trend of individuals using social media to document and counter threats, thereby holding perpetrators accountable in the court of public opinion. This approach, while empowering, also exposes individuals to further risk, as seen in VDM’s defiant stance.

The viral video of VDM responding to threats from alleged NANS members is a microcosm of larger issues plaguing Nigerian society, including security, political interference in student organizations, and the power of social media. As the video continues to circulate, it serves as a call to action for greater accountability and protection for those who speak out. VDM’s readiness to confront the situation, despite the risks, resonates with many who see him as a voice for the voiceless, but it also underscores the dangers inherent in such a role.
