US, UK, Canada cautions citizens following Nigeria's planned protest

Citing prior incidents, the three nations issued separate travel advisories warning their citizens living in Nigeria to stay clear of any potential altercation between protestors and security forces.
Under the hashtag #EndBadGovernance, the protest organizers have been actively encouraging young people and civil society organizations to join the demonstrations against the nation's economic woes.
Nonetheless, the US Mission in Abuja cautioned Americans not to get caught up in the rallies in a security advice that was posted on its website on Friday. They were advised by the alert to stay away from protests and crowds and to keep an eye on the local media for updates.
The advisory said, "Nationwide protests may take place in Nigeria between July 29 and August 5, 2024, according to media reports." Protests may involve violent altercations, roadblocks, checks, and traffic jams based on previous events. There are no set hours or locations specified.
UK alerts people It advised British nationals living in Nigeria to travel cautiously, stay away from big groups and events, and keep an eye on news reports. "Political rallies, protests, and violent demonstrations can take place with little notice," the advice stated. Find out which spots to avoid.
