US Rapper Nelly Arrested Over Possession Of Illegal Drugs

Rapper Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes Jr., is at the center of controversy after his lawyer accused law enforcement of targeting him during a recent arrest. According to his attorney, Scott Rosenblum, Nelly was unfairly singled out by an "overzealous" officer at a St. Louis, Missouri, casino, where he frequently visits and has reportedly won several jackpots.

The arrest, which took place at 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, was initiated after a search allegedly revealed four ecstasy pills. Rosenblum insists that the search was unwarranted, as the officer had no probable cause. Instead, the officer ran a search for outstanding warrants as Nelly attempted to collect his winnings, discovering a warrant for no proof of insurance dating back to 2018.

Rosenblum argues that this warrant was issued in December 2023, and Nelly never received any notification about it. He criticized the officer's decision to handcuff and publicly escort Nelly through the casino, calling the actions unnecessary and excessive.

Rosenblum further stated that in a similar situation, "any other citizen would have been told to address it [the outstanding warrant] and allowed to go on their way." He expressed confidence that the case would be dismissed and announced plans to request an inquiry into the officer's conduct.

Nelly, a three-time Grammy Award winner known for hits like "Just A Dream" and "Ride Wit Me," was briefly held and then released by police in Maryland Heights. The incident has raised questions about police procedures and the treatment of high-profile individuals during routine checks.
