The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has returned the country after attending the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.
The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has returned the country after attending the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on behalf of President Bola Tinubu. While at the event, Shettima read Nigeria’s national statement wherein he called upon leaders of the world to forgive debts owed by developing countries, especially those in the third world or what is now referred to as the global South for them to be able to achieve sustainable economic development. He also held several one-on-one with foreign leaders and attended several sideline activities and functions.

On this score, one of the major positives of his visit was that he launched the search for the funding of Nigeria. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation promised $600,000 for flood response and health sectors, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce promised $320 million to fund economic redevelopment in the country. On his return, Shettima is anticipated to accompany President Tinubu in the celebration of Nigeria‘s 64th Independence Day celebrations.
