UK bans Naomi Campbell as charity trustee for using funds on spa treatment
Naomi Campbell banned as a UK charity trustee for five years after an investigation revealed misuse of funds on luxury hotels, spa treatments, and personal expenses.
British supermodel Naomi Campbell has been banned from serving as a UK charity trustee for five years, following a UK Charity Commission investigation that uncovered misuse of charitable funds. The watchdog’s three-year inquiry revealed that between 2016 and 2022, only 8.5% of the charity’s total expenditure went toward charitable grants, with the remaining funds allegedly spent on luxury hotel stays, spa treatments, and cigarettes.
The Charity Commission stated that Campbell’s lavish personal expenses were covered using charity funds, sparking outrage. The investigation exposed serious financial mismanagement within the organization, leading to Campbell’s ban from holding trustee positions in the UK.
Responding to the findings in an interview with AP, Naomi Campbell expressed her shock, saying, "I just found out about the findings today, and I’m extremely concerned. I wasn’t in control of my charity; I entrusted those responsibilities to a legal employer."
The ruling has sparked widespread debate and concern over accountability in high-profile charitable organizations, casting a shadow over Campbell’s philanthropic efforts. The decision serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of transparency and oversight in charitable operations.
