Two suspected kidnappers nabbed by vigilante in Bauchi

Two notorious kidnappers, identified as Salau and Yellow, who had allegedly terrorized the communities of Ningi Local Government Area (LGA) in Bauchi State for years, were apprehended by local vigilantes and hunters. The duo, responsible for a string of abductions, extortion, and murders across the Balma and Burra communities, were presented to the Emir of Ningi, Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Danyaya, in a ceremony that marked a significant victory for the community.

Their capture was the result of painstaking efforts by the vigilante and hunters' group, who meticulously tracked the suspects after months of close surveillance. Yellow, one of the captured kidnappers, openly admitted to participating in numerous kidnappings, revealing that they had extorted at least ₦60 million from their victims. He also disclosed the role of informants who fed them critical intelligence on potential targets, and expressed willingness to assist authorities in dismantling the wider syndicate.

Usman Suleh Magayaki, Secretary of the Ningi Emirate Council, confirmed the arrest, thanking the vigilant efforts of the local security volunteers who risked their lives to root out the criminals. "These kidnappers have tarnished the reputation of our people for over three years, subjecting innocent families to unimaginable suffering. Today, with the help of Allah and our brave volunteers, justice is within reach," Magayaki said.

The Emirate has since handed the suspects over to security agencies for further interrogation and legal action. Residents were urged to be vigilant, and to screen new settlers carefully to help identify potential criminals before they can cause harm. While the police have yet to release an official statement, SP Ahmed Wakili of the Bauchi State Police Command promised to provide further details as the investigation unfolds.
