Two Nigerian men, Tosin Dada, 34, of Wellingborough, and Solomon Ibukun Adebiyi, 39, of Northampton, have been convicted of raping a 17-year-old girl in the UK. The disturbing crime took place on March 12, 2022, and resulted in both men being charged with three counts of rape each.
During the trial at Northampton Crown Court, Dada and Adebiyi initially claimed their encounter with the victim was consensual. However, after a 9-day trial, the jury rejected their defence, deliberating for eight hours before delivering unanimous guilty verdicts on all charges.
In a statement released on its official Facebook page, Northamptonshire Police confirmed the conviction and announced that both men had been remanded in custody. Their sentencing is set for October 25, 2024, at Northampton Crown Court.
This case highlights the court’s firm stance against sexual violence, with both men facing severe consequences for their actions. The verdict brings a sense of justice for the victim and underscores the seriousness with which such crimes are handled in the UK.
