Two arraigned over alleged N9.6m chairs theft
Two men, Chiagoziem Obi and Joseph Nkpokpo, charged with stealing chairs worth N9.6 million in Lagos, plead not guilty. The case is adjourned to October 17.
The Lagos State Police Command has brought two men, Chiagoziem Obi and Joseph Nkpokpo, before the Ojo Magistrate’s Court over the alleged theft of chairs valued at N9.6 million. The duo is facing charges of conspiracy and stealing, to which they pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, informed the court that the defendants committed the offence on September 21 at Olojo Drive in Ojo, Lagos. They allegedly conspired to steal 40 pieces of "Airport chairs," belonging to a complainant, Mr. James Uzomiwu.
The charges were brought under Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015. Magistrate A. Alade granted bail to the defendants, setting it at N1 million each, with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned until October 17 for further mention.
This case highlights a significant theft in Lagos, where the alleged crime centers around the targeted stealing of high-value items meant for public spaces.
