Transactions above N500,000 can lead to trouble – Police warn POS operators
Delta State Police warn POS operators against transactions over N500,000, highlighting risks of being linked to kidnappers. Operators urged to stay vigilant and follow regulations.
The Delta State Police Command has issued a strict warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators, advising them to refrain from handling transactions exceeding N500,000, as such activities may link them to criminal enterprises, particularly kidnapping.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, recounted a disturbing incident where a POS operator processed a ransom payment of N4 million for kidnappers, only to earn a paltry N40,000 in profit. He cautioned operators against becoming unwilling accomplices in ransom collection, stating, “Don’t be a tool for kidnappers to collect ransom. It must be traced to you.”
Edafe emphasized that engaging in transactions beyond the regulated N500,000 threshold could result in severe legal consequences. He urged POS operators to report any suspicious activities and comply with federal guidelines to avoid being implicated in criminal activities.
“Be wise,” Edafe advised. “You may think you’re just doing business, but you could find yourself in prison before your lawyer steps in.”
The warning serves as a crucial reminder for POS operators to remain vigilant and uphold the law, as their role in financial transactions can have far-reaching consequences.
