Train kills man on railway track in Lagos
LASEMA confirms a man was fatally hit by a train on a railway track in Lagos. The incident occurred near Cappa, with emergency responders securing the scene and awaiting transport of the victim’s body to the morgue.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported a tragic incident on Monday, where a man was fatally struck by a train while walking along a railway track. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, confirmed the incident in a public statement.
According to Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency received an emergency call around 6:00 p.m. about a train accident near the railway line opposite Cappa in Lagos. LASEMA's response team quickly arrived at the scene and discovered an adult male who had been hit by an oncoming train while walking along the tracks.
Initial investigations indicated that the man, who was half-dressed and remains unidentified, succumbed instantly to the impact of the collision. The fatal incident left the victim's body lifeless on the railway line, underscoring the dangers of walking on active train tracks.
"The remains of the adult male have been secured and bagged by our response team," Oke-Osanyintolu stated, "We are currently awaiting the arrival of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit officials to transport the body to the morgue."
This tragic occurrence highlights the ongoing safety concerns around railway lines in Lagos and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to safety protocols near train tracks.
