Tragic Explosions Rock Maiduguri and Zamfara, Claiming Lives and Raising Security Concerns
An IED explosion near Maiduguri kills two during housing estate commissioning, while multiple blasts in Zamfara State heighten fears of bandit tactics to disrupt movement and instill fear.
Two lives were lost on Wednesday following an explosion caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Maiduguri, Borno State. The incident occurred at a 200-unit housing estate under construction in Dalwa.
The tragic blast took place around 1 PM, coinciding with the commissioning of housing estates in Maiduguri by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and his Yobe State counterpart, Mai Mala Buni. Sources revealed that a similar explosion occurred on Tuesday, though further details remain unclear.
Dalwa, located 175 kilometers from Maiduguri, is among the many communities devastated by Boko Haram insurgents. Governor Zulum’s efforts to rebuild the area included the construction of 200 houses.
Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, two explosions were reported last Friday in the Dansadau District of Maru Local Government Area, marking the third attack in the region within a week. The blasts occurred on the Dansadau-Malamawa and Malele roads, although no casualties were recorded.
Residents also recounted other deadly incidents, including a bomb explosion on a bridge in Yar Tasha village on Wednesday morning that claimed 12 lives. Another explosive triggered by an 18-seater bus on Sunday resulted in the driver’s death.
These recurring attacks in Zamfara State have heightened concerns about insecurity, as locals fear the deliberate planting of explosives along major roads by bandits. The strategy appears aimed at disrupting movement and instilling fear among residents.
