Three men to die by hanging for abducting, killing Delta monarch
Delta High Court sentences three men to death for the 2016 murder of Ubulu-Uku monarch, Obi Edward Ofulue III, delivering justice for the tragic crime.
The Delta High Court has sentenced three men to death by hanging for the brutal murder of the late King of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Obi Edward Akaelue Ofulue III, marking a significant moment in the pursuit of justice.
The convicted individuals, Suleiman Musa, Umar Mohammed, and Garba Abubakar Haruna, also known as Dogo, committed the heinous crime on January 6, 2016. A fourth defendant, Jemilu Ahmed, was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for being in possession of the monarch’s stolen property.
Justice M. Omovie, presiding over the case, found the defendants guilty of conspiracy to commit kidnapping, armed robbery, and murder after the prosecution, led by Director of Public Prosecutions Mr. Anthony Orhorhoro, presented irrefutable evidence.
Key testimony came from Pastor Charles Afamefuna Ugboh, who was abducted alongside the late monarch but managed to escape. His eyewitness account detailed their harrowing ordeal and the royal father’s tragic end.
The court ruled that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt, delivering a strong message against violent crimes in Delta State.
The late Obi Edward Akaelue Ofulue III was kidnapped along the Obior Road and later found dead in the bush, leaving a deep scar on the Ubulu-Uku community. This judgment provides some closure to the grieving kingdom while underscoring the need for justice and security in the region.
