The “Fortnight” singer Taylor Swift made history on Thursday night at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA), becoming the most-decorated artist in the award show's history with a record-breaking 49 career wins.

Swift secured 10 awards during the evening, including major categories such as Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Hot 100 Songwriter, Top Streaming Songs Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Album.

Prior to the event, Swift and Drake were tied with 39 wins each. While Drake earned three awards this year, bringing his total to 42, Swift surged ahead with her remarkable victories.

In a pre-recorded acceptance speech, Swift expressed heartfelt gratitude to her fans and supporters, stating, “Everything that’s happened with the Eras Tour and The Tortured Poets Department, I just have to say thank you. It means the world to me that you guys have embraced the things I’ve made and cared so much about my music.”

As she approaches her 35th birthday on Friday, Swift called the milestone achievement “the nicest early birthday present.”

Swift’s dominance on the Billboard charts in recent years is unparalleled. In 2022, she became the first artist to claim the entire Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with tracks from her album Midnights. Earlier this year, she shattered her own record, occupying the top 14 spots on the Hot 100 following the release of The Tortured Poets Department.

TTPD also set records, spending 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and making Swift the only living artist to have five albums simultaneously in the top 10 in 2023.

The 2024 Billboard Music Awards, hosted by comedian Michelle Buteau, aired live on FOX and featured performances from Coldplay, Linkin Park, Shaboozey, and others.
