Taiwanese rescue personnel are searching the southern coast of the country for a cargo ship with nine crew members that went down.

Typhoon Gaemi hit Taiwan as the freighter, flying the flag of Tanzania, was off the port city of Kaohsiung in the south.

In the Philippines, where a tanker carrying over 1.5 million liters of industrial petroleum overturned, the storm has also brought unceasing rain.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista reported that sixteen crew members of the Philippine-flagged MT Terra Nova have been rescued, while one is still unaccounted.

Three people have been killed and hundreds more injured in Taiwan as a result of Typhoon Gaemi, which made landfall on the island's east coast on Wednesday, according to officials.

Gaemi intensified the wet conditions in the Philippines before making landfall in Taiwan, resulting in the deaths of eight people. After going through Taiwan, it is anticipated to make a second landfall in mainland China.

Nine citizens of Myanmar were on board the ship Fu Shun when it capsized off the coast of Taiwan, according to the Coastguard Administration of Taiwan.
