Stranded Africans plead for help at the Mediterranean Sea

Controversial Political Analyst and Former Media aide to Former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Reno Omokri made a tweet on his X handle about a recent case of some black Africans who are stranded while on a trip to Europe.

His tweet reads this:

"Fellow Black Africans Stranded In The Mediterranean Sea, Trying To Reach Europe. Who Can Help Save These Lives.?"

A video from Mr. Reno's tweet showed some Black Africans in the Mediterranean Sea and a young man screaming for help.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that over 20,000 people have died crossing the central Mediterranean from North Africa to Europe since 2014. This makes it the worst crossing in the world. By July 20, 901 bodies from accidents in the Mediterranean had been recovered, while 34,290 individuals had been rescued or intercepted, according to Tunisia's interior ministry. It stated that the majority of them were from sub-Saharan African nations.

IOM press officer Flavio Di Giacomo stated on Sunday that over 1,800 people have lost their lives trying to cross from North Africa to Europe so far this year, which is over 900 higher than it was the previous year. In actuality, the number is probably far greater. He stated, "A large number of bodies being discovered at sea suggests there are many shipwrecks we never hear about."
