Nigerian musician and songwriter Spyro disclosed that his relationship with his father, a preacher, deteriorated when he stopped paying his school tuition because of his subpar results. In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, he revealed this and said that his mother assumed responsibility for providing for him while he was in school. This damaged their relationship by giving him the impression that his father detested him. “My dad withdrew from paying my school fees when I was younger because I wasn’t doing well in school.”
“My mum took the responsibility and she sent me to secondary school and university. I saw her really struggle to do these things and it wasn’t easy for her.“My dad was just trying to be a disciplinarian, I guess. He was like ‘You’re not coming home with good grades, I’m going to stop paying, I won’t keep investing in you if you’re not bringing good grades home.’
