Spyro Reveals Why His Father Refused To Pay His School Fees
Spyro Makes A Shocking Revelation On Why His Father Refused To Pay His Secondary, Tertiary Fees
Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, known to fans as Spyro, has become a standout figure in the Nigerian music scene, captivating audiences with his extraordinary talent and unique style. Born on October 1, 1990, in Lagos State, Nigeria, Spyro's journey to stardom began in the church choir, where his love for music first took root. Growing up in a vibrant community, he was surrounded by sounds and influences that would shape his musical career.
Spyro's first significant breakthrough came in 2018 with the release of his track "Funke," which showcased his distinctive sound and lyrical prowess. This song laid the foundation for his rise in the industry. However, it was in 2022 that Spyro truly made waves with the release of "Billing" and "Who's Your Guy?" These hits quickly became anthems, earning him widespread recognition and solidifying his place in the hearts of fans across Nigeria and beyond.
Despite his recent success, Spyro's journey has not been without challenges. In a candid interview with Chude Jideonwo, he revealed the tension in his relationship with his father, who was a pastor. Growing up, Spyro faced academic difficulties, which led his father to stop paying his tuition fees as a form of discipline. Spyro's mother took on the responsibility of funding his education, struggling to support him through secondary school and university. Reflecting on this period, Spyro shared, "When I was younger, I wasn’t doing well in school, and my dad pulled back and withdrew from paying my school fees. My mum took the responsibility and sent me to secondary school and university. I saw her really struggle to do these things, and it wasn’t easy for her."
Although this situation strained his relationship with his father, Spyro now views his father's actions with understanding. "My dad was just trying to be a disciplinarian, I guess," he explained. "He was like, ‘You’re not coming home with good grades, so I’m going to stop paying. I won’t keep investing in you if you’re not bringing good grades home.’ Now, I would not blame him. But it affected my relationship with him as I grew up. I felt like my dad hated me."
