In Bayelsa State, a speedboat carrying fifteen people collapsed, resulting in the verified death of one person. The Southern Ijaw Local Government Area’s Okubie Community River was the scene of the disaster yesterday. According to sources, when the event happened, the unfortunate boat was transporting the people from Yenagoa to Oporoma, the headquarters of the Southern Ijaw LGA.
According to a source who wished to remain anonymous, one person drowned as a result of the rising water, while other passengers on the speedboat were saved by local citizens. The accident occurs just two weeks after a commercial boat in the same SILGA’s Ezetu 1 village detonated at the Atlantic Ocean’s edge, killing twenty people.
The incidence was confirmed by Mr. Ipgansi Ogoniba, State Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN). It happened on Saturday afternoon, he claimed. He stated that 14 passengers had been saved and one had perished, but he did not elaborate on the reason behind the accident.
