Speedboat capsizes in Bayelsa, killing one person

The speedboat carrying fifteen people overturned in Bayelsa State, and one person has been officially declared dead.

The incident happened in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area's Okubie Community River. According to sources, when the event happened, the unfortunate boat was transporting the people from Yenagoa to Oporoma, the Southern Ijaw LGA headquarters.

One person on the speedboat drowned as a result of the rising water, according to a source who desired to remain anonymous but who stated other passengers were saved by locals. This accident occurs just two weeks after a commercial boat exploded at the Atlantic Ocean's edge in the Ezetu 1 village inside the same SILGA, resulting in the deaths of twenty people.

Mr. Ipgansi Ogoniba, State Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), attested to the occurrence. He claimed it happened in the afternoon on Saturday. He added that one passenger had perished and that fourteen had been saved, but he did not elaborate on the accident's cause.
