Speed Darlington Speaks Out After Arrest for Defamation, Claims Human Rights Violation
Controversial singer Speed Darlington opens up about his arrest and detention for defamation, alleging police violated his rights and held him beyond the legal limit
Nigerian singer and content creator Speed Darlington has shared his experience following his arrest and detention for defamation. In a viral clip posted on October 17, 2024, Darlington claimed his civil and human rights were violated, alleging that he was denied access to his family and lawyer and was held for four days instead of the legal two-day limit. Reflecting on his 18th arrest, including previous ones in the USA, he stated that these experiences have made him stronger.
The incident stemmed from a video Darlington made, in which he accused fellow artist Burna Boy of having links to American rapper Diddy, who had recently been arrested on serious charges. After Darlington went missing for three days, an SOS was posted on his Instagram page. His mother later made an emotional plea for his release. Darlington was eventually found in an Abuja holding center and released.
