Speed Darlington Released from Police Custody After Burna Boy's Petition

Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has confirmed the release of singer and social media personality, Darlington Okoye, also known as Speed Darlington, from police custody.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Adeyanju shared that Speed Darlington, also called Akpi, had been freed from the Nigeria Police's Intelligence Response Team (IRT). He also thanked activist Omoyele Sowore and lawyer Stan Alieke for their help in securing the release.

"Special thanks to #YeleSowore, reliable lawyer #StanAlieke, and all Nigerians who spoke up for Speed Darlington. I also appreciate Prof Sanusi and the IRT team for their professionalism," Adeyanju tweeted. Speed Darlington had been arrested in Lagos last Friday, then moved to Abuja, based on a complaint from Grammy-winning artist, Burna Boy, though details of the complaint remain unclear.
