Speed Darlington Granted Bail Amidst Legal Drama Involving Burna Boy
Controversial rapper Speed Darlington, arrested over allegations tied to Burna Boy, has been granted bail by the Nigeria Police. Read details of the unfolding legal drama.
Controversial Nigerian rapper Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or "Akpi," has been granted bail by the Nigeria Police Force.
The news was confirmed by his lawyer, Stanley Alieke, who shared the update via Instagram on Monday, stating, “Akpi has been granted bail by the court.”
Darlington’s arrest on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, was allegedly linked to his public criticisms of Grammy winner Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy.
According to a member of his legal team, Deji Adeyanju, Burna Boy was reportedly behind the arrest. Adeyanju had earlier accused Burna Boy of involvement in questionable relationships, including one with embattled U.S. rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who faces allegations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Following Darlington’s arrest, his legal team filed for his release, demanding that he either be arraigned within 48 hours or granted bail. Adeyanju expressed relief at the court’s decision, stating, “Issues around injustice may take time, but justice will always prevail.”
The unfolding saga continues to stir conversations about justice and celebrity disputes in Nigeria.
