Social media has destroyed our sense of reality – Denzel Washington
Denzel Washington expresses concern for today's generation, criticizing the negative impact of social media and reflecting on the challenges youth face in the digital age.
Veteran actor Denzel Washington has shared his thoughts on the challenges faced by today’s youth, particularly the overwhelming influence of social media. During a recent podcast interview with actor Paul Mescal, Washington reflected on how social media has changed the way people interact and perceive the world, expressing sympathy for the current generation.
Washington, who famously avoids social media, explained that he feels fortunate not to have had to navigate the digital landscape of constant opinions and online scrutiny. “I pray for your generation because we didn’t have to deal with what you’re dealing with. It’s our fault for putting it in your hands,” he said, acknowledging that the digital age has brought new pressures.
The actor lamented how social media distorts reality, adding, “There were no nine million opinions every moment of my day. People who liked you could suddenly turn on you, and you don’t even understand why.” He also revealed that he’s never had an Instagram or LinkedIn account, distancing himself from the digital world that he believes can amplify negativity.
Washington’s remarks underscore a growing concern among older generations about the impact of social media on mental health and public perception.
