Skales Slams Viral Divorce Rumors, Calls Out False Claims in Fiery X Post

Nigerian singer Skales, whose real name is John Njenga-Njeng, has publicly debunked a viral story claiming he divorced his wife, Precious Hassanity, over a derogatory comment she allegedly made about his music career on social media. The artist took to X (formerly Twitter) to set the record straight, describing the claims as “really evil” and “not fair” in a post shared at 08:43 WAT on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. The statement, made by Skales (@youngskales), has since ignited a wave of reactions from fans and followers, highlighting the dangers of misinformation on social media. The controversy originated from a post by @VERITY_HQ on May 26, 2025, which falsely attributed a quote to Skales. The post claimed, “I d!vorced my wife because of a comment she made on my post and I don’t rêgret it,” alleging that Skales was upset over his wife joining others to mock his music career online.

It further quoted him as saying, “She should’ve defended me or better still stayed quiet,” and that he was now “just knackîng and searching for the right woman.” The post included a collage of four images of Skales and a woman, presumably his ex-wife, in various settings, including what appeared to be a wedding photo.

Skales swiftly addressed the rumor in his X post, stating, “This is really evil of you that you would cook up such story and this is not fair .. I have never made such statement and this is false… pls stop spreading lies.” His response directly quoted the original post by @VERITY_HQ, making it clear that he was addressing their specific claims. The singer’s firm denial was echoed in reports by Linda Ikeji’s Blog and Daily Post Nigeria, both of which confirmed on May 27, 2025, that Skales had never made such a statement and labeled the report as false. The reaction from fans was immediate and varied.

@OmegaXDreams urged Skales to take legal action, commenting, “Come on man, sue him!!!!!” while @UnlimitedEniola referenced a similar incident involving actress Adunni Ade, noting, “Yesterday was Adunni Ade, today is Skales… What is wrong with these guys???” Others, like @ladenz, expressed disbelief at the audacity of the false claim, stating, “How someone made up 2 paragraphs of something that was never said, then confidently posted it on SM baffles me.” @ThaBoyYom, who had earlier expressed skepticism about the original story, replied to Skales, “Like say I know,” indicating he had suspected the rumor was unfounded. The incident has sparked broader discussions about the spread of fake news on social media. @Allezamani noted, “Fake news on social media is the order of the day,” while @Jerale9 lamented, “Agenda no get papa for diz app oh. Some people dey balance to ruin people lives just for engagement 🤦🤦🤦🤷💔.”

Some users, such as @farAWWWAY_SZN, took the opportunity to reinforce the lesson from the original rumor, stating, “Support isn’t only when things are going well… leave any partner/friend who mocks your grind publicly or privately.” Skales’ marriage to Precious Hassanity, a chef, had previously made headlines when they tied the knot in September 2021. However, their relationship faced public scrutiny following the death of Skales’ mother in 2022, after which he hinted at marital issues on social media. A November 2022 snippet of an unreleased track, reported by Daily Post Nigeria, appeared to target his wife with derogatory lyrics, further fueling speculation about their relationship. Despite this history, Skales’ latest statement makes it clear that the specific claims about his divorce were fabricated.
