Sinach sued for N5bn over ‘Way Maker’ copyright issue
Gospel singer Sinach faces a N5 billion lawsuit from producer Michael Oluwole, claiming co-authorship of her hit song "Way Maker." The case continues in 2025.
Popular gospel artist Sinach is at the center of a N5 billion lawsuit brought by music producer Michael Oluwole, also known as Maye, over her 2016 hit song, "Way Maker." Maye claims co-authorship and co-ownership of the internationally renowned track and is seeking official recognition of his contribution in a suit filed as FHC/L/CS/402/2024.
The producer is also demanding N5 billion in damages for what he describes as continuous infringement on his intellectual property rights.
Sinach has firmly denied the allegations, maintaining that she is the sole creator of "Way Maker" and pointing to her established reputation as a global gospel artist long before the song's release.
The trial, which began on November 27, 2024, at the Federal High Court in Lagos, has been adjourned to January 29 and 30, 2025, to allow both parties to present additional evidence.
