Shallipopi Breaks Ties with Dapper Music and Dvpper Digital Over Financial Mismanagement and Exploitative Contracts
Nigerian music star Shallipopi announces the termination of his contracts with Dapper Music and Dvpper Digital, citing financial mismanagement, lack of transparency, and exploitative agreements. He vows to continue creating music through his new label, Plutomania Records.
Nigerian music sensation Crown Uzama, widely known as Shallipopi, has officially ended his partnership with Dapper Music and Dvpper Digital. In a heartfelt statement shared on his X account, Shallipopi outlined the reasons for his decision, focusing on issues of financial mismanagement, lack of transparency, and exploitative contracts.
In the statement titled “A Message from Shallipopi: Standing Up for Artists and Creators Everywhere”, Shallipopi expressed his disappointment but emphasized his resolve. “Today, I’m officially ending my agreements with Dapper Music and Dvpper Digital. This wasn’t a choice I made lightly, but it’s a step I had to take after my trust was broken, my finances mishandled, and my rights as an artist were disregarded,” he wrote.
Shallipopi accused Dapper Music, his management company, of pushing him into a deal with Dvpper Digital Limited, a distribution company owned by the same parties. According to Shallipopi, the deal prioritized the companies’ profits over his growth, leading to the mishandling of funds advanced in his name. “This debt has now accrued up to a huge sum of money we are even yet to ascertain,” he shared.
A major grievance was the lack of transparency surrounding his financial records. Despite repeated requests, Shallipopi claimed he was denied access to clear details about his earnings. “It’s devastating and unacceptable for any creator to be left in the dark about their own financial standing,” he stated.
The artist also spoke out against an alleged “unfair forever deal,” where Dapper Music reportedly tried to lock him into a contract demanding 30% of his earnings indefinitely. “Even after we part ways, they want to continue taking 30% of my earnings in perpetuity. That’s exploitation, and it is cruel,” he declared.
Shallipopi framed his decision as a broader fight for fairness and respect for artists. “It’s about every artist and creator who pours their soul into their work, only to face betrayal and exploitation from people who should be looking out for them,” he wrote. He assured his fans that this setback would not hinder his creativity and that he was committed to producing more music through his new label, Plutomania Records.
This breakup follows reports from November, where Shallipopi removed Dapper Music from his bio and unfollowed the label’s CEO, signaling the end of their collaboration.
