Severe fire outbreak hits Nigeria's commercial city
Some items estimated to be worth millions of naira were destroyed on Friday after a fire broke out in an industrial storage in Lagos.
This was disclosed in Lagos on Friday by the Lagos State Management Agency.
According to Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, the event took place at the Josien Factory Warehouse in Abule Osun, Lagos State.
He said that at 8:28 a.m. on Friday, the organization answered a distress call via its toll-free lines.
"The agency activated its Dolphin Response Team from the Igando Base in response to the distress call.
When emergency personnel got to the Josien manufacturing complex, they found a warehouse filled with burning diapers, solar batteries, foreign charcoal, and massage chairs.
Since the warehouse was locked when the tragedy happened, the initial cause of the fire is still unknown.
He stated, "As there were no occupants in the building at the time of the fire incident, no casualties or injuries were recorded due to the incident."
He claimed that in order to protect responders at the incident scene throughout the operation, safety protocols were triggered by each member of the multi-agency response teams.
"LASEMA is working with LASG Fire and Rescue personnel to coordinate the operation.
Millions of naira worth of goods and property were damaged in the incident.
"Yet, the LASEMA Response Team managed to recover a sizable amount of merchandise valued at millions of naira throughout the operation."
