President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced the successful launch of Senegal's first satellite into orbit. He continued by saying that the action was a significant step toward the nation's "technological sovereignty" in West Africa.

The GAINDESAT-1A satellite was launched from the Vandenberg facility in California. "The outcome of our engineers' and technicians' tireless labor over the past five years. This development is a significant step toward our technical sovereignty, according to Faye. He continued, "I would like to express my gratitude and pride to everyone who helped make this project possible."

The satellite was created and built by Senegalese engineers in collaboration with the French Montpellier University Space Centre, or CSUM, according to the country's official television, RTS. The presenter added that several satellites, including the GAINDESAT-1A, were put into orbit by a Falcon 9 rocket that lifted off from the Vandenberg facility. According to RTS, the satellite will gather information for a number of governmental organizations, such as the National Civil Aviation and Meteorological Agency and the Directorate for Water Resources Management and Planning, or DGPRE.
