Senate Investigates FCT Demolitions, Calls for Restraint

Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the FCT Senatorial District, raised concerns about the alleged illegal demolition of structures in the nation's capital. She called on the Senate to intervene and halt further demolitions.
While Senate President Godswill Akpabio acknowledged the concerns, he explained that the Senate cannot completely stop the demolitions. He clarified that the FCTA is obligated to comply with court orders and may proceed with demolitions in those cases.
The Senate's investigation aims to determine the legality and necessity of the demolitions and to ensure that the rights of affected residents are protected.
