On Friday, fans of Nigerian hip-hop artists Davido and Wizkid tried to re-engage former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki in a war for supremacy after the former number three in the nation praised Wizkid for providing Nigerians with what he called a “brilliant album.” Fans of the two musicians jumped on Saraki’s timeline as soon as the former governor of Kwara State tweeted about the album, asking why he had endorsed Wizkid’s Made in Lagos album. Davido did not receive the same treatment when he released his “A Good Time album” in 2019.

“For all of us, Wizkid’s #MadeInLagos is a fantastic way to cap off a long and exciting month. Saraki tweeted, “I’m currently feeling the vibes of my favorite song from the album #Grace.” Davido’s camp remained silent as many people expected a response from them as comments to Saraki’s tweet continued, with some Wizkid-supporting Twitter users hurling insults.
Others applauded Saraki for connecting with music fans and displaying his other side, while others quickly dismissed his post, calling it a veiled attempt to stay relevant before his next political bid in 2023. However, a significant portion of the replies to the tweet stated that the politician ought to refrain from participating in the “cyber war.” In response to a fan who asked him if he supported Davido or Wizkid, Saraki stated that Wizkid and other up-and-coming Nigerian musicians have continued to push the envelope, while Davido has been like a son to him.
