Road accident claims six lives, injures many in Ibadan
A tragic accident in Ibadan involving a trailer and a lorry claims six lives and injures several others, including a pupil whose mother died in the incident.
At least six individuals lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries in a tragic accident on Monday involving a trailer loaded with tiles and a lorry carrying soft drinks. The incident occurred at Oke Eleshin, Amuloko, along the Akanran road in Ibadan.
Among the injured is a young pupil whose mother reportedly died in the collision. Four of the injured, including two primary school children, were rushed to the nearby Amuloko City Hospital, while two others with severe injuries were admitted for further treatment. The deceased were taken to an undisclosed hospital.
According to an anonymous staff member of the Oyo Road Transport Maintenance Agency (OYRTMA), the accident happened in the early hours of the morning due to brake failure of the descending trailer. “After losing control, it collided with a tricycle known as Keke NAPEP. Another lorry carrying soft drinks, coming from behind, attempted to avoid hitting the trailer but ended up crashing into another Keke NAPEP,” the staff explained.
Mrs. Rosemary Alo, Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Oyo State, confirmed the accident but stated she would provide an official report after receiving more details from her team. Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer Adewale Osifeso added that a comprehensive report would be issued by the FRSC commander following a thorough briefing.
