Aead of the Rivers State Local Government elections, the Inspector-General of Police has ordered an increase in police presence across the state to enhance security. He urged residents to continue their normal activities without fear.

The police released a statement responding to accusations made by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara against the Inspector-General of Police and the police force. According to the statement, the police were following a Federal High Court order that prohibits their direct involvement in the election process. The police withdrew officers from the Rivers State Government House and replaced them with officers from the command's operations department, tasked with securing the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RIEC) office to prevent any attacks.

The police emphasized that their actions were lawful and based on intelligence reports. The statement condemned the governor's accusations and his threats, stressing that the police are committed to maintaining peace and order in the state. The Inspector-General has also ordered additional officers to be deployed to ensure security during the elections.
