Nigerian music stars Rema and Asake have secured spots on former US President Barack Obama's list of favorite songs for 2024, solidifying Afrobeats’ growing global influence.
Obama unveiled his annual music roundup on Saturday, with Rema’s *Yayo* and Asake’s *Active* featuring Travis Scott among the standout tracks. Joining them on the prestigious list is South African artist Tyla, whose song *Jump*, featuring Gunna and Skillibeng, also earned recognition.
Nigerian-American artists Shaboozey and Jordan Adetunji were celebrated for their tracks *A Bar Song* and *Kehlani*. In addition to the African talents, global music heavyweights like Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, and Karol G made the cut with one song each.
Sharing the list on X, Obama invited fans to explore his curated playlist, saying, “Here are my favorite songs from this year! Check them out if you’re looking to shake up your playlist – and let me know if there’s a song or artist I should make sure to listen to.”
The inclusion of African artists highlights the genre's growing footprint in the global music scene, marking another win for the continent’s creatives.
