A Yobe State Police operative, Inspector Mohammed Bulama, has been arrested for homicide after allegedly stabbing Abdulmalik Dauda during a dispute. Investigation underway.
An operative from the Yobe State Police Command has been apprehended in connection with a homicide case involving a fatal altercation. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, announced the arrest on Tuesday, stating that Commissioner of Police Garba Ahmed has mandated an immediate investigation into the incident involving Inspector Mohammed Bulama, who is assigned to the Police Mobile Force (PMF) at the 41 Division in Damaturu.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on September 29, 2024, around 6:20 PM, when Inspector Bulama, 38, engaged in a heated argument with 39-year-old Abdulmalik Dauda (also known as Baksha) in the Zango area of Damaturu. The dispute reportedly stemmed from an unresolved transaction, which escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Bulama stabbed Dauda in the chest. Bulama himself suffered head injuries during the altercation.
After the incident, Bulama sought refuge at the 'C' Divisional Police Headquarters, where he was promptly arrested. The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has since launched an investigation, and Bulama remains in custody as the department prepares for both internal disciplinary measures and potential prosecution.
Commissioner Ahmed condemned Bulama’s actions and extended his condolences to Dauda's family. He emphasized the police force's commitment to accountability, stating, "The Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate any misconduct from its personnel. We assure the public that justice will be served, and the perpetrator will be held accountable."
