Police intercepts Six Bandits in Benue, Nigeria
Following measures to tackle insecurity in Nigeria, the nation's police force intercepted six bandits in Benue, Nigeria
Six bandits were neutralized at a bandit camp in Mbavuur Ward, in the Logo Local Government Area of the State, according to the Benue Police Command. The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Sewuese Anene, revealed this to the command in a statement that was provided to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi on Monday. The statement claims that on July 27, a squad from Operation Zenda JTF raided the bandit camp at Mbavuur Ward after receiving an intelligence report on it. They then engaged the militia group in a gunfight.
Six of the bandits were neutralized during the raid, while some managed to get away. "While evading suspects are still being pursued, corpses were recovered and placed at the NKST Ugba morgue," she stated.
Among the things found at the scene, she identified an AK-47 rifle and two locally made, ammunition-loaded small guns.
According to her, on July 18, the command also detained one Tersoo Dabo of Udei, Guma LGA, in relation to robberies that occurred along Makurdi-Lafia Road.
She clarified that the suspect had also admitted to being a member of a gang consisting of seven people that operated near the Makurdi-Lafia route. She went on to say that an investigation resulted in the gang's spiritual head, Martin Akunu of Udei Town, being taken into custody. It was said that he was in charge of arming them before to any operations. She added that the command had taken from them one locally manufactured double barrel pistol, 162 balls, and what appeared to be local gun powder and ammo.
The PPRO stated that on July 28, a police patrol team in Daudu detained a man named Usman Hardo from Keana who was suspected of kidnapping. According to her, the suspect was wanted in Nasarawa for kidnapping and rustling cattle.
