Police extradite Killaboi from Doha, Qatar after allegedly murdering his girlfriend

In a chilling saga that gripped Nigeria, Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, infamously known as “Killaboi,” was extradited from Qatar on April 19, 2025, to face justice for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe. The 21-year-old first-class student at Lead City University, Ibadan, met a tragic end on July 13, 2023, at Killaboi’s residence in Ajah, Lagos.

What began as a lover’s quarrel turned deadly, with Augusta’s lifeless body discovered days later, her private parts missing and her remains already decomposing, as reported by the Lagos Police.

Killaboi, a 26-year-old gambler from Abia State, initially confessed to the crime on Instagram, claiming he “mistakenly” stabbed Augusta during an argument. But his confession was a ruse to throw off investigators.

He fled Nigeria, sparking a global manhunt. Declared wanted by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department in October 2023, an INTERPOL Red Notice followed. Killaboi was first arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone, under the alias “Kanu Princeton Samuel,” but escaped during a prison break in November 2023.

For over a year, he evaded capture, using forged identities like “Toure Abdoulaye” to traverse West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East, eventually settling in Doha, Qatar, with a fake Guinean passport.

The Nigeria Police Force, in a rare display of international cooperation, worked with INTERPOL, the Federal Ministry of Justice, and Qatari authorities to track him down. Using advanced biometrics, they confirmed his identity, leading to his arrest in February 2025 and extradition two months later.

Augusta’s mother, Cordelia Okonye, had tirelessly sought justice for her “sunshine,” whose death left a void after her father’s abandonment years earlier. As Killaboi now faces prosecution, Nigerians on X voice mixed reactions as some praise the police, while others decry selective justice amid thousands of unresolved cases.
