Police Arrest Siblings For Burying Teenager Alive Over Stolen Phone

In a harrowing incident that unfolded in Zaria, a 16-year-old boy named Abubakar Aliyu was subjected to a chilling form of punishment after being accused of stealing a mobile phone. The phone, valued at N35,000, belonged to one of the suspects at a construction site in Abuja, where both the suspects and the victim were employed as laborers.

The suspects, identified as brothers Yahaya and Abdullahi AbdulKadir, took the law into their own hands after the theft of Abdullahi’s phone. They accused Abubakar of the theft and decided that his daily wages would be withheld to replace the missing phone. Displeased with this resolution, Abubakar left Abuja and returned to his home in Zaria.

However, the matter did not end there. The AbdulKadir brothers tracked him down on Saturday, August 10th, 2024. What followed was a terrifying ordeal for the young boy. The brothers forcefully abducted him and took him to an abandoned building near a farm. There, they dug a hole, tied Abubakar's hands and feet, sealed his mouth, and buried him alive with only his head left above the ground. They then covered his exposed head with rags, leaving him to suffer in silence.

Fortuitously, a passerby heard the faint sound of coughing coming from the abandoned building and discovered Abubakar's dire situation. The police were alerted, and the young boy was rescued just in time.

The AbdulKadir brothers were subsequently apprehended by the police. During interrogation, they confessed to burying Abubakar as a means of extracting a confession regarding the stolen phone. The spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident and emphasized that justice would be served.

This disturbing act has shocked the local community, raising serious questions about the lengths some individuals are willing to go to exact their version of justice.
