Police arrest 4 for car theft in Edo
Edo State Police arrest four suspects involved in the armed theft of a Toyota Highlander in Ekpoma. The vehicle was recovered, and the suspects have confessed, set to face charges in court.
Edo State Police Command has successfully arrested four individuals in connection with the armed theft of a Toyota Highlander SUV. The Commissioner of Police, Nemi Edwin-Iwo, disclosed this on Friday, revealing that the suspects executed the robbery at gunpoint while using a motorcycle to evade capture.
According to Edwin-Iwo, the suspects—Ifeanyi Okpara, 26, Dennis Okosun, 25, and Edwin Iruogbe, 27—carried out the carjacking in Ekpoma, Edo State, seizing the vehicle with registration number RBC 66 AQ. The stolen SUV was later sold to Shehu Ismail, 25, for N1.5 million.
The victim, Iwologbe Raphael of Judges Quarters, Ekpoma, reported the incident on August 23, 2024, leading to a tech-driven investigation by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. This effort resulted in the recovery of the vehicle and the apprehension of all involved suspects. A locally made pistol and live ammunition were also seized from the suspects, who have since confessed to their crimes.
The arrested individuals are set to face charges in court, highlighting the police's swift and effective action in tackling violent crime in the region.
